A Thane business consultant has fallen victim to a significant fraud, losing Rs 98 lakh to two individuals alleged to have promised him lucrative returns from a government tender.

The accused, who are reportedly known to the victim, claimed ownership of two companies and assured the consultant of profits from a deal involving the supply of mobile phones to the Uttar Pradesh government through Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL).

After receiving no returns or reimbursement, the consultant reported the incident to the police, leading to an FIR against the accused under sections involving cheating and criminal breach of trust.
