The Haryana Assembly has passed a new bill aimed at tightening the noose around illegal travel agents, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced on Wednesday. The legislation underscores the government's resolve to combat exploitation of the youth by unregistered travel agents.
Introduced by the Chief Minister on March 18, the Haryana Registration and Regulation of Travel Agents Bill, 2025, seeks to criminalize the operation of unregistered travel agencies. The bill moved forward despite opposition suggestions to refer it to a select committee for further inputs.
This legislative move aligns with recent concerns over the deportation of illegal Indian immigrants from the US, many of whom were funneled through perilous 'donkey routes' facilitated by unscrupulous agents. By establishing a structured regulatory framework, this bill aims to ensure accountability and protect the state's citizens from fraudulent practices.
