Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has sought clarifications on the Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill, following its passage through the state legislature, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil announced. Despite opposition, the bill proposes restructuring the BBMP into seven city corporations within the Greater Bengaluru Area, with a new oversight body.
The proposed Greater Bengaluru Authority would be managed by the Chief Minister as the chairperson, aiming to improve coordination and oversight. However, Governor Gehlot has raised concerns about potential interference with the powers of local governing bodies, referencing similar challenges faced by Delhi's governance structure.
In response to civic and political opposition, Governor Gehlot sought detailed clarifications on the bill. Minister Patil noted that the state has passed 119 bills recently, with seven pending clarifications, which will soon be addressed and resubmitted for approval.
