In a decisive move to tackle the growing menace of drug abuse, Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil has introduced the Himachal Pradesh Drugs and Controlled Substance (Prevention, De-addiction and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2025.
This landmark legislation aims to control drug abuse through strict legal measures, emphasizing rehabilitation and reintegration of addicts. The Bill proposes harsher penalties for offenses involving drug quantities, particularly targeting repeat offenders, those selling drugs to minors, and trafficking near educational institutions.
Key provisions include significant jail terms for those enabling drug offenses on their premises and severe punishments for individuals involved in financing or harboring criminal activities related to drug trafficking.
