In a shift of crime trends, Odisha has witnessed a rise in rape cases by 8%, while murder incidences have dropped by 7.6% in 2024, according to the White Paper published by the Home Department. The report documented 3,054 rape cases and 1,258 murder cases last year.

The White Paper, released before the Home Department's budget discussion, also noted a reduction in Left Wing Extremism. In response, law enforcement neutralized six Maoists and arrested eight, seizing weapons and explosives. LWE-related fatalities decreased significantly.

Additionally, cybercrimes surged, with scams amounting to Rs 154.45 crore. Police action recovered Rs 2.02 crore for victims, and arrests were made in 581 cases, as per the Home Department's annual findings.
