Odisha Sees Rise in Rape, Drop in Murder Cases: 2024 Crime Report

The latest White Paper by Odisha's Home Department reveals an 8% increase in rape cases and a 7.6% decrease in murder cases for 2024 compared to the previous year. The report highlights 3,054 rape cases and 1,258 murder cases, among other crimes. Strong police actions reduced Left Wing Extremism activities significantly.

In a shift of crime trends, Odisha has witnessed a rise in rape cases by 8%, while murder incidences have dropped by 7.6% in 2024, according to the White Paper published by the Home Department. The report documented 3,054 rape cases and 1,258 murder cases last year.

The White Paper, released before the Home Department's budget discussion, also noted a reduction in Left Wing Extremism. In response, law enforcement neutralized six Maoists and arrested eight, seizing weapons and explosives. LWE-related fatalities decreased significantly.

Additionally, cybercrimes surged, with scams amounting to Rs 154.45 crore. Police action recovered Rs 2.02 crore for victims, and arrests were made in 581 cases, as per the Home Department's annual findings.
