The Allahabad High Court Bar Association commenced an indefinite strike on Tuesday, opposing the proposed transfer of Delhi High Court Judge Yashwant Varma to their jurisdiction. The uproar follows allegations of corruption, including a large cash discovery at Justice Varma's residence.
Meanwhile, the Oudh Bar Association urged the government to reject the transfer recommendation and pushed for impeachment proceedings against the embattled judge. Both associations insist that these actions are necessary to uphold public trust in the judiciary.
Bar Association President Anil Tiwari stated that their protest targets systemic corruption, emphasizing transparency. The Oudh Bar Association also plans discussions with government officials and other bar associations to reconsider the transfer, advocating a judicial review of the decision.
