Red Army Faction Legacy: Daniela Klette's Historic Trial Begins

Daniela Klette, one of the last standing alleged members of the infamous Red Army Faction, faces a long-awaited trial after eluding police for over three decades. Arrested in Berlin earlier this year, Klette is charged with attempted murder, robbery, and illegal firearms possession, and could face life imprisonment.

Authorities accuse Klette of being part of a spree of robberies post-Red Army Faction's dissolution in 1998, a period during which her lawyer, Lukas Theune, disputes the charges. The group, notorious for its string of kidnappings and killings in Germany from the 1970s, was rooted in anti-Vietnam war protests and became known as the Baader-Meinhof Gang.

Still at large are Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg, alleged accomplices wanted for similar charges. Klette's trial, set against a backdrop of armoured security, reignites attention on the shadowy history of the militant group, amid her lawyer's challenge of the charges.
