The Supreme Court has urged the Delhi government to implement measures for regulating heavy vehicle movement within the city. This comes as the court addressed a long-standing restriction initiated by a 2006 Delhi High Court order, which had banned truck access around the national capital's Outer Ring Road.

Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh emphasized the importance of taking necessary measures, especially in light of frustrations expressed by The Delhi Goods Transporters' Association, which argued the ban stagnated local trade. With the main petition concluded by the High Court in 2009, the Supreme Court found no merit in prolonging the appeal process.

Initially, the High Court had mandated that trucks be barred from entering certain congested areas, with specified consequences for violations. However, the top court later paused this order, prompting an analysis by the environment pollution control authority to develop viable solutions for transporters.
