The Supreme Court on Tuesday decided against withdrawing the CRPF security cover from the Unnao rape survivor, pointing to a continuing perception of threat to her safety.

Despite the conviction of former BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who now serves a life sentence for the crime, the court has opted to maintain security for the survivor while lifting it from her family and other witnesses. The decision underscores an ongoing concern for her well-being despite the legal resolution of the case.

The matter arose following the Centre's plea to retract the security initiated by an earlier court order in 2019. The saga continues as Sengar's appeal remains pending, challenging the trial court's judgment which had ordered his lifelong imprisonment for the 2017 crime that shook the nation.
