Innovative Land Governance: A Global Workshop

A unique six-day workshop on land governance with delegates from 22 countries commenced in Gurugram. Organized by the Union Panchayati Raj ministry under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation programme, it discusses innovative approaches and technologies like the SVAMITVA scheme to address global land governance challenges.

The Union Panchayati Raj ministry has kicked off a pioneering workshop focusing on land governance, hosting delegates from 22 nations. This six-day event, organized at the Haryana Institute of Public Administration in Gurugram, is part of a collaboration with the external affairs ministry under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation programme.

More than 40 senior officials from Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia have gathered to explore innovative solutions for global land governance issues. A statement from the ministry emphasized the workshop's goal to leverage the SVAMITVA scheme, which provides rural property owners with records of rights, as a pivotal approach towards enhancing rural governance.

Additional Secretary Sushil Kumar Lohani highlighted the impressive scale of SVAMITVA, with over 3.17 lakh villages mapped. The workshop also spotlights geospatial technology's transformative impact in mapping, featuring drone technology integration and a comprehensive exhibition of precision surveying equipment and GIS applications.
