The alleged remarks by Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar regarding a Muslim reservation quota led to uproar in Parliament on Monday. The BJP accused the Congress of attempting to alter the Constitution for religious quotas, sparking fierce debates in both Houses.
Citing Shivakumar's purported suggestion of a constitutional change for Muslim reservation as a possible future scenario, the BJP condemned the Congress's alleged agenda. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge countered the accusations, asserting that the Constitution, crafted by B R Ambedkar, remains unchangeable and accusing BJP of spreading falsehoods.
The controversy halted parliamentary proceedings, with BJP leader J P Nadda criticizing the Congress for Karnataka's 4% Muslim quota in public contracts. Shivakumar refuted the statements attributed to him, identifying them as misconstrued and part of BJP's disinformation campaign against the Congress.
