The Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Law and Justice, commemorated International Women’s Day with a vibrant and meaningful event held at the Conference Hall of Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi. This gathering marked a significant milestone, highlighting the continued commitment to gender equality, women's empowerment, and celebrating their critical roles in societal development.
Dr. Anju Rathi Rana, Law Secretary, graced the occasion as the chief guest, accompanied by prominent women leaders and experts from diverse backgrounds. The distinguished panel included Ms. Tripti Gurha, Additional Secretary from the Ministry of Women and Child Development; Dr. Vageshwari Deswal, renowned professor from the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi; and Ms. Monika Arora, esteemed Advocate practicing at the Supreme Court of India and the Delhi High Court.
In her welcome address, Smt. Sunita Moorti Anand, Additional Secretary, underscored women's significant demographic representation and emphasized their growing participation and impactful contributions across social, political, and economic landscapes. She urged society to further amplify women's voices and ensure inclusivity in every sphere.
Dr. Vageshwari Deswal provided an insightful account of the evolution of women's rights movements, stressing society’s collective responsibility to uphold and promote gender equality. Her narrative traced the historical struggle and highlighted pivotal milestones that culminated in the establishment of International Women’s Day as a worldwide celebration of women's achievements and rights.

Her presentation underscored the necessity of robust legal support systems to effectively address and combat gender-based discrimination and violence.
Reflecting on governmental efforts, Ms. Tripti Gurha detailed various schemes and initiatives specifically designed for women's welfare and empowerment. She emphasized the proactive role of the government in ensuring safety, educational opportunities, economic participation, and overall empowerment of women nationwide.
In her keynote address, Dr. Anju Rathi Rana eloquently articulated that rights and responsibilities go hand in hand.
