The citizenship status of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is now a pressing issue as the Delhi High Court was informed by the Centre that it remains under consideration by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has pushed the court to expedite the process, seeking a directive to the MHA.

The High Court bench, led by Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya, noted the Centre's submission and scheduled further hearings for May 28. Swamy's persistent calls for Gandhi to respond to the MHA's letter were acknowledged, but the bench indicated it could not influence the ministry's actions.

The ongoing proceedings have gained complexity with a parallel case in the Allahabad High Court. A BJP worker has recently filed another petition, adding to the urgency. The outcome in Allahabad may affect the direction of the case in Delhi, giving a broader scope to the debate surrounding Gandhi's citizenship.
