The Supreme Court collegium has confirmed the transfer of Delhi High Court's Justice Yashwant Varma to his parent Allahabad High Court. This move comes amid an inquiry over substantial cash allegedly found at Varma's residence, prompting judicial work withdrawal and considerable controversy.

According to a resolution uploaded on the Supreme Court website, the transfer was recommended during collegium meetings in March 2025. The Delhi High Court's Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya had initiated an in-house inquiry into the allegations and proposed the transfer, which awaits the Centre's acceptance.

The incident reportedly began with a fire at Varma's Lutyens Delhi residence, after which cash was allegedly discovered. In response, a three-member inquiry committee was formed, and the findings suggested a deeper probe. Justice Varma has denied the allegations, calling them a conspiracy to malign him.
