In an unusual bust, six women were arrested in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, on suspicion of operating an illegal gambling operation, according to local police sources on Monday. The incident underscores increasing concerns about gambling activities in residential areas.
A police patrol team, acting on a tip, raided the location in the Sanjay Nagar neighborhood of the Baradari area. Officers arriving at the scene discovered the accused engaged in gambling using playing cards, leading to their immediate arrest. Authorities confiscated a total of Rs 2,780 and a deck of 52 cards as evidence.
Baradari police station in-charge Dhananjay Pandey noted the unusual nature of the operation, emphasizing that it was run exclusively by women. Identified as Brajkishori alias Lambi, Pushpa, Premwati, Nanhhi Devi, Meera, and Sadhana, the suspects may be part of a larger gambling network. Investigations are ongoing with charges filed under Section 13G of the Gambling Act.
