A 28-year-old man in Pune was apprehended after allegedly faking his own kidnapping to extract money from his father, authorities revealed on Thursday.
Pradeep Chauhan's elaborate plan involved sending a fake abduction message to his father on March 7 and then cutting off all communication by switching off his phone. Concerned, his father, Rama Shankar Chauhan, alerted the police.
The investigation traced Pradeep's whereabouts to the Hinjewadi area in Pune. During questioning, Pradeep admitted that he orchestrated the scheme voluntarily to obtain money. He was granted bail after being charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita due to bailable offences, especially with his father pleading for his release citing the Holi festival.
