U.S. Army Corps Implements Buyout Program Amid Workforce Restructuring

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has initiated the process of informing 1,068 employees, or about 3% of its civilian workforce, about their eligibility for the Trump administration's buyout program for federal workers, a spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday.

These employees are engaged in various roles and are situated in offices worldwide, according to Army Corps spokesperson Gene Pawlik. Despite being an integral branch of the U.S. military tasked with building and permitting infrastructure, the Corps has not yet been mandated to terminate probationary employees, Pawlik stated.

The Corps primarily employs civilians. The administration's 'deferred resignation program' allows federal employees to remain on the payroll until September 30 without physically working, potentially with reduced or eliminated duties. Millions of federal workers have been offered financial incentives to resign as part of Trump's broader strategy to decrease government size.
