Umesh, aged 28, from Hasanpur village in Haryana, entered Rekha's home under the guise of a woman, intending to convince her to run away with him. When she declined, he resorted to violence by setting her on fire, according to police.

Neighbours in Koh village were alerted by Rekha's screams and rushed to her aid. Umesh, desperate to escape, leaped from the terrace, sustaining critical injuries. Both he and Rekha, who suffered severe burns, were taken to SN Medical College for urgent care, police officials reported.
