In a significant crackdown on travel visa fraud, Delhi Police have arrested a travel agent based in West Bengal who orchestrated a fake Greece visa scheme for an unsuspecting traveler. The accused, 37-year-old Sanjeev Kumar Rout, was detained on Sunday, according to an official statement.
The fraudulent activity came to light on February 16 when 20-year-old Sharanjit Singh, a resident of Punjab, attempted to board a flight to Greece via Egypt from IGI Airport. Immigration officials identified the Greece visa on his passport as forged, prompting an investigation.
Singh disclosed that he had paid Rs 12.5 lakh to Rout, through another agent named Goura, to facilitate his travel. The scheme also involved a trip to Nepal to fabricate travel history. The police have detained both the passenger and Rout, who confessed to engaging in such fraudulent activities since 2014.
