Tensions Rise in the Taiwan Strait: U.S. Naval Movements Under Military Scrutiny

China's military announced that it had organized naval and air forces to track the passage of a U.S. destroyer and an oceanographic survey ship as they crossed the Taiwan Strait from February 10-12. This information was broadcast by state media outlet CCTV on Tuesday.

Colonel Li Xi, spokesperson for the Eastern Theatre Command, criticized the U.S. for its actions, stating they send incorrect signals and heighten security risks. 'Troops in the theatre are on high alert at all times and are resolute in defending national sovereignty and security as well as regional peace and stability,' Li remarked.

The U.S. Navy has yet to comment on the transit of these vessels. This operation marks the first U.S. mission through the strategically sensitive strait under the Trump administration, highlighting increased geopolitical tensions.
