A former BJP legislator, Neel Daman Khatri, along with his associate Joginder Dahiya, has been convicted for leading a riotous mob in Delhi, a court has ruled. The charges stem from an incident in 2014 where a demolition team was attacked in the Narela area.
Special judge Vishal Gogne observed how the mob, indeed aware of the government officials' identities, was influenced by Khatri's leadership role. Khatri's known position made the claims of him being a mere bystander untenable.
The conviction exemplified serious legal ramifications under multiple sections of the IPC for inciting violence against public servants. Meanwhile, four others involved in the case have been acquitted in absence of incriminating evidence.
