In a significant victory for Maharashtra's anti-Naxal initiatives, Vimala Chandra Sidam, known as Tarakka, surrendered to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Gadchiroli. Tarakka, once a formidable force within the Maoist ranks, led numerous operations earning a Rs 25 lakh bounty on her head.
Tarakka's decision to lay down arms is a result of sustained pressure from government forces, culminating in her surrender along with ten senior Maoists, including three Divisional Committee members and a deputy commander. This group collectively held bounties totaling Rs 1.03 crore.
Fadnavis lauded the achievements of the C-60 commandos and police officers in their operations against Maoist insurgencies. In addition to cash rewards, rehabilitation policies offer aid to those who abandon violence, marking a crucial strategy in the ongoing fight against Naxalism.
