In a dramatic demonstration for justice, residents of Massajog village in Maharashtra's Beed district staged a 'jal samadhi' agitation on Wednesday, demanding the arrest of three absconding suspects in the Santosh Deshmukh murder case.
Approximately 40 locals, comprising both men and women, stood waist-deep in a local lake, underscoring their demands. The protest was brought to a halt after two hours when Superintendent of Police Navneet Kanwat visited the site, promising comprehensive efforts to apprehend the fugitives.
The protest followed a significant development in which Walmik Karad, a close associate of state minister Dhananjay Munde, turned himself in to authorities over an extortion case linked to Deshmukh's murder. Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the murder, while three others remain at large.
