The prime accused in the assault of two women in Odisha's Balasore district over allegations of attempted religious conversion has been apprehended, officials confirmed.
Digital Inspector General (Eastern Range) Satyajit Naik announced on Tuesday the arrest of Badal Panda, from Kansa village, who was taken into custody on Monday. Four individuals have now been arrested concerning the incident.
The assault, which took place in Gobardhanpur village, saw two women tied to a tree and beaten by a mob, leading to widespread outrage and a viral social media video. The National Commission for Women has called for a thorough investigation, demanding a report from the Odisha DGP within three days.
