Cyber Con: The Rising Wave of Online Fraud Targeting Indore

In 2024, online fraudsters swindled Rs 60 crore from Indore citizens, including a former High Court judge. Despite retrieving Rs 12.50 crore and arresting 52 individuals, the issue persists with over 10,000 cyber fraud complaints, notably in cryptocurrency schemes.

Indore is facing a significant rise in online fraud cases, with losses amounting to Rs 60 crore in 2024. Victims include a former High Court judge, highlighting the pervasive threat of cyber fraud, according to senior police officials.

The law enforcement agency successfully retrieved Rs 12.50 crore of the stolen funds and apprehended 52 suspects involved in these fraudulent activities. Of the numerous complaints received, a significant portion, around 25 percent, involved cryptocurrency investment scams.

The crime wave is not limited to Indore; areas across India are identified as cyber fraud hotspots, posing challenges for effectively tackling these digital crimes.
