West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made a significant visit to Sandeshkhali, where she addressed local protests against alleged land grabbing and sexual harassment by TMC leaders. Emphasizing that benefits from state schemes are a public right, Banerjee urged residents not to succumb to demands for payments.
During a public distribution event in the district near the Sundarbans, Banerjee highlighted the state's direct deposit system for welfare benefits. She warned against divisive elements sowing discord and encouraged women to be cautious of misleading calls. The chief minister reaffirmed the state's commitment to supporting its citizens through doorstep services.
Allegations of financial manipulation in protests have been rife, with past violence involving Enforcement Directorate officers during a raid on TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan's property. Calls for the arrest of Shahjahan and affiliates continue, as Banerjee aims for communal harmony and development in Sandeshkhali.
