In a significant judgment by the Thane sessions court, two men received a 10-year prison sentence for attempting to murder a local corporator by setting his house ablaze.
The events stemmed from a 2018 arson attack, which was linked to the corporator's efforts to combat drugs and alcoholism in the area. District and Sessions Judge GG Bhansali also imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 on each of the convicted men, Yuneb Nasir Kewal and Asif Anwar Khan.
The prosecution, represented by Additional Public Prosecutor Rakhi Pandey, presented evidence showing the duo targeted corporator Juber Inamdar's home while he and his family were asleep, pouring petrol on the door before igniting it.
