The Karnataka cabinet has announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to delve into alleged irregularities surrounding COVID-19 management by the former government. This comes in response to an interim report from the Justice John Michael D’Cunha Commission, as stated by Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil.
Minister H K Patil emphasized that the SIT, led by an Inspector General of Police, is tasked solely with investigating the irregularities. Discussions about the financial recovery related to these irregularities will be handled separately by the Department of Revenue.
Justice D’Cunha's commission had earlier recommended prosecuting ex-Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and former Health Minister B Sriramalu. The cabinet sub-committee, led by Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, reviewed this report, which ultimately led to the cabinet's decision to form the SIT.
