Supreme Court judge Justice K V Viswanathan on Thursday recused himself from a case alleging contempt of a verdict involving Anil Ambani's firm and the Delhi Metro. The case concerned a previously reversed judgment where the apex court had awarded Rs 8,000 crore against DMRC.
In April, the Supreme Court overturned its 2021 decision and ordered Anil Ambani's company to return Rs 2,500 crore, citing the initial judgment as a "grave miscarriage of injustice". The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's curative plea was supported, while the Supreme Court's interference with the decision was deemed unjustified.
On Thursday, when the contempt plea was scheduled for hearing before Justices B R Gavai and Viswanathan, Viswanathan recused himself. The case was reassigned to another bench. Previously, the court upheld an arbitration award favoring DAMEPL, a Reliance Infrastructure firm, and dismissed DMRC's attempt to review this award.
