The Allahabad High Court, in a pivotal decision, granted bail to former Samajwadi Party MLA Irfan Solanki on Thursday. This order comes despite his involvement in a high-profile arson case.
However, the court rejected Solanki's plea to stay the conviction, underscoring the seriousness of the charges. The state's effort to seek a sentence enhancement was also dismissed by Justices Rajiv Gupta and Surendra Singh.
The case dates back to June 7, 2024, when a special court in Kanpur convicted Solanki and four others for setting a woman's house ablaze in Jajmau area, prompting legal actions that have now been partially resolved with this bail order.
