The political arena in Himachal Pradesh heated up as the BJP demanded the cancellation of assembly memberships for six Chief Parliamentary Secretaries (CPS). This action follows the high court's decision to strike down the 2006 law under which these appointments were made.
While state minister Rajesh Dharmani assured that the CPS legislators' positions remain secure, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu plans to examine the judgment before deciding on subsequent measures. Opposition leader Jai Ram Thakur criticized the appointments as unconstitutional and dictatorial.
The court's ruling calls for the immediate withdrawal of facilities and privileges granted to the CPS roles. Despite the legal setback, the CPS appointment prompted debates on fiscal responsibility and constitutional adherence within the state's Congress-led administration.
