In a recent Supreme Court verdict, the judiciary outlined strict procedural requirements for demolition activities, a process already purportedly followed by the Uttar Pradesh government. Following the decision, BJP MLA Sidharth Nath Singh expressed approval, emphasizing that the ruling reinforced the government's authority to dismantle illegal structures legally.
According to Singh, illegal constructions on government land are now subject to lawful demolition, provided procedural parameters are respected. The Supreme Court directed that demolitions must be preceded by a 15-day show cause notice to property owners, ensuring that statutory guidelines are adhered to, preventing the executive branch from overreaching its powers.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav criticized the BJP's bulldozer policy, suggesting its symbolic nature against his party's vision. He lauded the Supreme Court's decision, interpreting it as a stance against arbitrary governmental practices regarding property demolitions.
