Israel Challenges Criticism from Aid Groups Over Gaza Situation
Israel dismissed allegations by international aid groups, including Oxfam and Save the Children, claiming it didn't meet U.S. humanitarian demands for Gaza. The U.S. acknowledged Israel's progress but affirmed deadlines. Israeli military insists efforts continue despite lack of aid group coordination. Concerns about potential famine in northern Gaza persist.
Israel strongly rebutted allegations on Wednesday from eight international aid groups, including Oxfam and Save the Children, accusing it of failing to comply with U.S. demands to improve Gaza's humanitarian situation. These groups argued that Israel hadn't met expectations, despite statements from Washington suggesting progress.
The U.S. set a deadline for Israel to implement specific changes within 30 days, which expired Tuesday, potentially affecting U.S. military support. However, COGAT, the Israeli military branch responsible for coordinating aid to Gaza, claimed humanitarian organizations didn't engage in coordination or seek precise information before publishing their report.
Amid escalating tensions, Israel remains firm in its ongoing military operations against Hamas, rejecting suggestions of looming famine in northern Gaza despite international concerns. The Biden administration continues to support Israel following a Hamas attack, while the humanitarian and geopolitical situation in Gaza deteriorates further.
