Celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations, India and the Philippines continue to strengthen their bilateral bonds, deeply rooted in democratic values and economic cooperation, as stated by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Wednesday.
Speaking at an anniversary event, Jaishankar emphasized the commitment of both nations to uphold international laws and develop long-term economic partnerships. He highlighted that the relationship has particularly progressed in recent years, guided by leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ferdinand Marcos.
The minister also noted enhanced defense and security cooperation, supported by shared interests in the Indo-Pacific. Expanding trade, investment, and people-to-people connections were spotlighted as areas of promising growth. Jaishankar expressed optimism for future collaborations while acknowledging the significant contributions to the relationship's evolution.
