Justice Surya Kant Takes Helm at Supreme Court Legal Services
Justice Surya Kant has been appointed as the new chairman of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna. His predecessor, Justice BR Gavai, now leads the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). The SCLSC provides legal aid to litigants in the Supreme Court.

Justice Surya Kant has been appointed as the new chairman of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee. The announcement was made in a notification from the National Legal Services Authority dated November 12.
This role was previously held by Justice BR Gavai, who has now been appointed to lead NALSA. NALSA is responsible for providing free legal aid to underprivileged sections of society.
Justice Surya Kant's notable career includes his tenure as chief justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court before being elevated to the Supreme Court on May 24, 2019. He will serve in the Supreme Court until his retirement on February 9, 2027.
