A Delhi Police sub-inspector, identified as Shripal, has been apprehended by the vigilance department for accepting a bribe, officials confirmed on Tuesday. The sub-inspector allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 to issue necessary notices in a fraud case.
The case originated when a businessman from Laxmi Nagar, involved in the agricultural products sector, reported being defrauded by individuals in Karnataka and Bengal back in July. Despite lodging an official complaint, the businessman saw no action and approached SI Shripal for assistance, who then demanded the bribe.
Shripal requested an initial instalment of Rs 10,000 on November 11. However, a vigilance unit, acting on the complaint, set up a sting operation leading to Shripal's arrest. The incident highlights ongoing corruption issues within the police force.
