In a significant legislative move, Russia's lower house of parliament has approved a bill restricting the adoption of Russian children by citizens from nations that permit gender transitioning. This step is part of a broader strategy to enforce 'traditional values' and curb perceived Western liberal influences.
The bill, spearheaded by State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, aims to protect adopted Russian children from gender reassignment practices abroad. Volodin emphasized the importance of shielding children from potential dangers in at least 15 specified countries, predominantly in Europe, along with Australia, Argentina, and Canada.
Historically, Russia has taken a staunch stance against LGBTQ+ issues, with President Vladimir Putin signing laws against the dissemination of related information. This recent legislative effort aligns with previous bans and continues to solidify Russia's position against what it terms as degenerate Western liberalism.
