The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected AAP leader Somnath Bharti's plea to transfer a case against him, concerning his allegedly derogatory remarks about the condition of hospitals and schools in the state.
This case is currently pending before the additional chief judicial magistrate of Sultanpur. Bharti had sought to move the case to the Rouse Avenue Courts, but the highest judicial authority denied this request.
Justices M M Sundresh and Aravind Kumar, however, did permit Bharti to request a video conferencing appearance for his trial. These proceedings were initially stayed by the Supreme Court last July, and were related to two cases registered in Rae Bareli and Amethi, which Bharti claimed were politically motivated.
