In a troubling development in Manipur's Jiribam district, two elderly men from the Meitei community were found dead amid escalating violence. The discovery followed a gunfight on Monday between suspected militants and security forces, police sources confirmed.
The gunfire left ten suspected militants dead, with police putting the number as high as eleven. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to trace several missing individuals, including women and children, since the unrest broke out.
Authorities have imposed prohibitory orders to prevent further violence while security operations continue in the tense region. A total shutdown has been observed in Kuki-Zo majority areas as protests against the killings continue.
