A 62-year-old man has been apprehended by police in Zhuhai, China, following a hit-and-run incident at a sports center that left multiple casualties. Eyewitness footage has captured images of at least 20 people sprawled on the road, with cries of 'terrorist' resonating as emergency services rushed to the scene.
The suspect, identified only by the surname Fan, allegedly drove a small car into a crowd outside the sports venue on Monday evening, the police reported. Following the attack, the driver fled the scene. The authorities have yet to disclose a possible motive.
While China is known for its low crime rates due to stringent security measures, there has been a notable increase in incidents involving knives in urban areas, raising concerns about public safety. Notably, China's largest air show in Zhuhai is set to unveil a new stealth jet fighter this week.
