The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday launched a series of raids across Jharkhand and West Bengal. These operations are part of a widespread money laundering investigation linked to the alleged illegal infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals, according to official sources.
Seventeen locations are under scrutiny in these states, particularly targeting areas under the jurisdiction of the Jharkhand ED office. This action follows a case initiated in September under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), which addresses the illegal infiltration and trafficking of Bangladeshi women into Jharkhand, generating suspected illicit funds.
Political tensions have been high as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leaders blamed the state government's alleged support of such infiltration, claiming it alters the demographic landscape of tribal areas like Santhal Pargana. This development is pivotal, as the first Assembly election phase takes place on Wednesday for 43 constituencies, with another 38 on November 20.
