Huawei Fights Back: U.S. Indictment Dismissal Request Amid Tech Theft Allegations
Huawei Technologies requests a U.S. judge to dismiss federal charges of stealing trade secrets and misleading banks. The company argues the charges are part of an unfounded initiative targeting Chinese entities. The trial is set for 2026, with Huawei maintaining its innocence.
Huawei Technologies is seeking to have a significant portion of a federal indictment dismissed. The indictment accuses the Chinese telecommunications giant of attempting to steal technology secrets from U.S. competitors and misleading banks concerning its operations in Iran.
In a Friday filing at a Brooklyn federal court, Huawei contended there was no evidence of a conspiracy, labeling it as part of the Department of Justice's flawed China Initiative targeting Chinese-linked entities. Huawei highlighted that some allegations were outside U.S. jurisdiction, and that bank fraud charges relied on a theory rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court last year.
The company claimed it was unjustly targeted as a prosecutorial target. The case, U.S. v. Huawei Technologies Co et al, awaits trial in January 2026. Despite continued restrictions on accessing American technology, Huawei insists it poses no national security threat.
