In a dramatic escalation of violence, armed militants set fire to several shops in the Borobekra sub-division of Manipur's Jiribam district on Monday, according to official reports.
The assailants fired multiple rounds at approximately 2:30 pm towards the Borobekra police station before advancing to Jakurador Karong, where they carried out acts of arson. Intense gunfire was reported as security forces engaged with the militants.
Located near Borobekra police station, which also houses a relief camp, the sub-division has become a hotspot for violence since June, exacerbated by last week’s killing of a 31-year-old woman at Zairon Hmar village.
