A prominent Taiwanese businessman, Robert Tsao, announced plans on Monday to file a lawsuit in a Taiwan court against senior Chinese officials over sanctions imposed on him, as a countermeasure against what he referred to as China's intimidation tactics towards lawful activities.
China had earlier accused Tsao, the retired founder of chipmaker UMC, of engaging in pro-Taiwan independence activities and sought to impose punishment. The move comes amidst heightened political tensions, with China conducting military exercises near Taiwan as a warning.
Despite legal and jurisdictional issues, Tsao's lawsuit is intended to serve as a protest against China's recent actions. His lawyers acknowledge the complexities, including the unenforceability of any potential ruling due to jurisdictional limitations, yet emphasize the necessity of action to uphold Taiwan's rights.
