The Delhi government has reinstated 10,000 civil defence volunteers (CDVs) as bus marshals for a temporary period of four months, primarily assigned to anti-pollution efforts. The decision follows a proposal approved by Chief Minister Atishi that aims to tackle pollution issues through enhanced enforcement.
In a meeting held on Sunday, the council of ministers submitted a report recommending the immediate deployment of these CDVs to Atishi, who confirmed the proposal's passage. The contentious measure awaits approval from Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena while it courts political controversies.
Opposition Leader Vijender Gupta criticized the move, expressing discontent among CDVs who seek permanent employment instead of temporary roles. He accused the AAP government of politicizing the issue, further delaying job security and resulting in financial losses for the marshals. The government plans to propose the permanent reinstatement of bus marshals to the LG soon.
