A businessman in Bhopal narrowly escaped being victimized by cyber scammers, thanks to the timely intervention of Madhya Pradesh police. The cyber criminals tried to trap the victim under a 'digital arrest' scheme, impersonating officials to extort money.
Vivek Oberoi, a resident of Arera Colony, was ensnared by scammers claiming to be from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the CBI, and Mumbai crime branch. They alleged his identity was being misused in fraudulent activities, thus enforcing a 'digital arrest' on him.
Quick-thinking Oberoi alerted the police, who demanded identification from the conmen, prompting them to cut ties. While Oberoi's bank details were compromised, no financial loss occurred, marking a victory for the cyber cell team.
