The Waqf (Amendment) Bill is at the center of controversy as opposition MPs on the parliamentary committee express dissatisfaction. They claim assurances made by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla have been unmet, pointing fingers at committee chairman Jagdambika Pal for conducting state tours without a proper quorum.
Pal, leading the Joint Committee of Parliament, dismissed the opposition's concerns. He emphasized that such tours are informal and do not require quorum adherence. Despite opposition boycotts, Pal remains committed to completing and submitting the Committee's comprehensive report by the winter session deadline.
The committee's approach has drawn criticism from opposition figures who argue the frequent, unplanned meetings prevent thorough preparation. MPs, including members from DMK, Congress, and TMC, have written to Birla citing disruptions and hinting that the study tours undermine the parliamentary process.
