An Iranian national has been charged by the FBI for allegedly plotting assassinations targeting former President Donald Trump and Israeli tourists in Sri Lanka, according to the Department of Justice. This plot has been linked to directives originating from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Farhad Shakeri, 51, is suspected to be involved in the assassination plot against Trump while also planning a mass shooting targeting Israeli tourists. Court documents reveal Shakeri's connections to the IRGC, and he remains at large, believed to be in Tehran.
U.S. and Israeli governments issued warnings about potential attacks, leading to the arrests of three individuals in Sri Lanka. Shaker provided surveillance details to IRGC officials and was asked to find new targets, allegedly orchestrating an attack in Arugam Bay with plans for weapon supplies.
