Tragedy in Canning: Man Arrested Over Alleged Lodge Murder

A man was detained by authorities in Canning, South 24 Parganas, following a woman's family's accusation of rape and murder at a local lodge, police sources confirmed on Saturday.

According to R Mondal, SDPO of Canning, police have launched an investigation based on the family's complaint against a man who allegedly had a relationship with the victim. The investigation awaits the post-mortem results.

The pair reportedly checked into the lodge on Friday afternoon. By evening, the woman fell critically ill and was pronounced dead at a nearby medical facility. Her body has since been sent for post-mortem, officials stated.
