The Odisha government has officially reduced the security detail of former chief minister Naveen Patnaik from Z to Y category, officials confirmed on Thursday.
This decision follows a recommendation from a high-level security committee, leading to the withdrawal of most personnel once assigned to the influential opposition leader.
Formerly shielded by a contingent of 268 officers, Patnaik will now rely on two havildar-ranked constables for his protection while relying on local police during out-of-town engagements.
